Leading Law Firms Host User Group Meetings to Address
Effective Risk Management Strategies
Sessions Provide open forum to discuss best practices in legal calendaring

LOS ANGELES – December 23, 2008 - David Kalmick, President/CEO of CompuLaw LLC, publisher of calendar/docket matter management software with built-in court rules databases, announces a series of law firm-sponsored user group meetings to educate legal professionals on best practices in court calendaring.  Each session focuses on risk management considerations for today’s law firms, as well as new features and benefits of both CompuLaw Vision™ and the CompuLaw Vision Web Portal™.

“Docketing is vital to any law firm's welfare,” said Patty Voldbaek, Legal Assistant/Docket Coordinator at Foster Pepper LLP.  “Our Portland Docket Users Group meeting focused on CompuLaw's risk management tools, and the importance of calculating case deadlines accurately.  It also emphasized CompuLaw's calendaring considerations and malpractice carrier mandates.  Overall, the meeting was a tremendous success and our members even requested that we revisit CompuLaw’s Risk Management Presentation in the near future.”

Prior user group meetings include Kilpatrick Stockton LLP (Atlanta, GA), DLA Piper US LLP (Chicago, IL), Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP (San Francisco, CA), and Latham & Watkins LLP (Los Angeles, CA).  Upcoming sessions include Bryan Cave LLP (Kansas City, Kansas) and Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner LLP (Washington, DC).

“There was a significant turn out at the New York CompuLaw User Group meeting, and it was actually a very lively discussion,” said Owen G. Wallace, Managing Attorney at Epstein
Becker & Green, P.C.  “I walked away with a page of written notes of new items that I wanted our IT department to investigate implementing.  For example, we are now looking to move forward with the CompuLaw Certification Program in 2009.  Now that I have attended the New York meeting, I have recommended that our Atlanta docketing clerk attend her local CompuLaw User Group sessions. CompuLaw shows every effort to reach out to its community of customers and discuss how they can help you work more efficiently. It’s a great product, especially for larger firms.”

CompuLaw’s Vision software automatically schedules critical dates in accordance with court rules, greatly reducing the possibility of missing deadlines through error-prone and time-consuming manual docket calculations. A full-featured application for Windows, Vision is also available in MS SQL and SQL Express 2005 (MSDE) versions.  Vision integrates with Microsoft Outlook®, Novell GroupWise®, Lotus Notes® and the CompuLaw Vision Web Portal™.

“Our meeting attendees always find our gatherings helpful, and word spreads quickly,” said Lynn Hood, Firmwide Docketing Administrator at Davis Wright Tremaine LLP.  “Due to an unexpectedly large response for our most recent Seattle User Group meeting, we changed locations to a more spacious facility. CompuLaw users of all experience levels have the unique opportunity to share their knowledge, allowing participants to not only build a network of  local docketing professionals, but also to learn how other firms are utilizing CompuLaw's capabilities.”

“We already know that calendar/deadline-related errors continue to be the leading cause of malpractice claims,” said Kalmick. “Many leading malpractice insurance carriers even provide a discount or other financial consideration to law firms using rules-based calendaring programs.  In today’s economic times, with insurance rates on the rise and the growing number of malpractice claims, CompuLaw is committed to helping its customers improve docketing efficiencies, reduce risk and protect their clients’ interests.”

Virtual user groups are available for those legal professionals not able to travel to their local events.  For more information about law firm user group meetings, customers can contact Jodi Foreman, Senior Corporate Trainer, at 800-444-0020 or jforeman@compulaw.com.
