CompuLaw's Rule Sets

Since the 1980s, CompuLaw has enjoyed a reputation for publishing the most accurate and complete rules databases available. CompuLaw's rules databases are used with confidence by thousands of firms throughout North America. CompuLaw is the undisputed industry leader in providing rules processing software and rules databases to the legal community.

CompuLaw is the ONLY rules publisher, who has, from the time of its initial rules offerings, used qualified attorneys to write or edit all of its databases. The quality of CompuLaw's rules databases are simply unsurpassed by any other rules product.

According to the American Bar Association, calendaring and deadline related errors are the leading cause of malpractice claims against attorneys and firms. CompuLaw’s products are specifically designed to help firms reduce these risks while increasing productivity and profitability.

Written and Tested by Experts

CompuLaw rules are written, edited, tested and maintained by a department of expert in-house attorneys. For example, when CompuLaw develops a local rule set for California, at least three attorneys, experienced at practicing in California and currently licensed to practice in California, work on developing the set. After extensive testing and quality assurance review, the rules are further reviewed by calendaring experts at some of the largest firms in the U.S. No other rules provider can match CompuLaw's exhaustive, development and testing process. CompuLaw sets the standard.

 What are CompuLaw's Rule Sets?

CompuLaw's rules databases are copyrighted, pre-programmed databases that work with CompuLaw Vision™, CompuLaw Vision SQL™, and authorized Case Management software packages, published by CompuLaw's Integration Partners. CompuLaw’s rules databases include formulas, holiday tables for each jurisdiction, rules summaries, authorities and other data items. These databases are invoked by the various programs and enable users to automatically schedule critical dates based on the designated rules. Firms that use CompuLaw’s rules databases save hundreds, sometimes tens of thousands of hours of unrecoverable billable time each year, while increasing their accuracy and reducing their malpractice risks.

CompuLaw's Rule Sets Library

With CompuLaw's rules databases, users can simply "point and click" and CompuLaw's software will automatically and accurately schedule dozens of critical dates. It's that simple. There’s no cryptic codes to learn and decipher and CompuLaw’s software automatically knows which rule sets need to be considered in what order of priority.

Important Legal and Licensing Information

The CompuLaw rules databases ("Rules") can be licensed for use with CompuLaw Vision™, Vision 98™, Vision SQL™, or with authorized CompuLaw Integration Partner™ Case Management Systems ONLY. CompuLaw's rules databases can only be used by valid licensees, during their subscription period.

Your CompuLaw software and rules (including all data elements such as holiday tables, “Experts”, formulas, textual summaries), and related materials, including manuals, updates and "The Rules News" newsletters are protected by both Federal Copyright and Trade Secret Laws. Your License Agreement with CompuLaw prohibits the disclosure or distribution of this proprietary information to any third parties. Furthermore, you cannot make derivative works of CompuLaw's software and rules, in whole or in part, or use CompuLaw's rules with any "non-CompuLaw" software. For example, it is a violation of law and CompuLaw's license for users to "compare" CompuLaw's rules or the output from the same, to any other rules software, to use such "comparison" data to modify or enhance the rules in the other system, or to provide the results of the "comparison" to a third party vendor. That would constitute an illegal creation of a derivative work of CompuLaw's rules. The only "comparisons" that you may make are "comparisons" to the actual rules (books) or to other firm information that does not include any of CompuLaw’s rules materials.

If any third party instructs you to make such an illegal comparison or requests copies of any of CompuLaw's proprietary information, in order to protect your firm, please contact CompuLaw immediately. If you have any questions about your rights or restrictions with respect to CompuLaw's products, please send such questions via e-mail to our Licensing Department.

Users must sign and agree to CompuLaw's Software Product Limited Warranty and License Agreement in order to receive the access codes to activate any CompuLaw rules database. As stated in the License, users must print out, review and test the rules databases carefully, to make sure that they comply with their understanding of the rules. Rules databases are updated from time to time throughout the year. When updates occur during the subscription period, CompuLaw provides these updates at no additional charge.
